Los montañeros: Oskar Porras, Carlos Soria, Unai Zendoia, Arkaitz Lasa, Sechu Lopez y Marta Alejandre, que compartimos permiso de ascension y Campo Base (CB) con Luis María Barbero, comunicamos lo siguiente:
El dia 16 de julio de 2009 salimos 8 montañeros que estábamos entonces en nuestro campo base camino del C1 de los Gasherbrum, todos salvo Luis María Barbero (que salió el dia 17). El dia 19, 3 de nosotros estabamos en el C3 del G1, 2 en el C2 del G1 y otros 3 en el C2 del G2. Ese dia Luis en compañía de un montañero polaco estaba en el C3 del G2 a 7000 m. Ese mismo día 19 el tiempo empeoró en la montaña y los 8 desistimos de nuestro intento a cima regresando hasta el CB y desconociendo los planes de Luis ya que no teniamos ningun tipo de comunicacion con el. Parece ser que Luis decidió continuar en la montaña en compañía del polaco y otros alpinistas iraníes que estaban también en el C3 del G2. El dia 20 salieron hacia la cumbre primero los iraníes y después el montañero polaco y Luis. El grupo de iraníes se dio la vuelta poco antes de la cumbre y el polaco y Luis continuaron hasta que a las 19.30 h de la tarde el alpinista polaco decidió darse la vuelta instando a Luis a acompañarle en el retorno debido a que era muy tarde y la meteo no era buena. Luis decidió a pesar de todo continuar hacia la cima. El polaco regreso al C3 y esperó la llegada de Luis hasta la mañana siguiente; ese día tanto los iranies como el alpinista polaco que estaban en el C3 se retiraron al C1 debido al mal tiempo. Cuando ya se daba por desaparecido a Luis la noche del 21 de julio los montañeros que entonces estaban en el C1 a 6000 m vieron una luz que contestaba a sus señales, situada a 7600 m. A partir de ese momento se intentó organizar un rescate tanto desde el C1 como desde el CB que fue frustado por el mal tiempo. Este mal tiempo (nevadas continuas) ha continuado durante los siguientes días imposibilitando moverse en la montaña por encima del C1 debido al altísimo riesgo de avalanchas. Ademas teníamos preparado un paquete con oxigeno, medicinas, agua y comida para que un helicoptero intentase un lanzamiento sobre la posicion de Luis. Este helicoptero aunque fue avisado desde el principio no ha podido volar por el mal tiempo. Lamentablemente, a fecha de hoy y dado el tiempo transcurrido, las malas condiciones metereologicas y el estado de la montaña, damos a nuestro compañero Luis por fallecido.

The mountaineers Oskar Clubs, Carlos Soria, Unai Zendoia, Weak Arkaitz, Sechu Lopez and Marta Alejandre, that shared ascent permission and Base Camp (BC) with Luis Maria Barber, communicated the following:
16th of July of 2009, 8 mountaineers left the BC towards the C1 of the Gasherbrum, all of us except Luis Maria Barber (who left day 17). Day 19, 3 of us were in the C3 of the G1, 2 in the C2 of the G1 and other 3 in the C2 of the G2. That day Luis, in company of a Polish mountaineer, was in the C3 of the G2 to 7000 m. That same day, July 19, the weather changed to worse in the mountains and the 8 stopped on our attempt to summit, returning until the BC without any knowledge of the Luis's plans since we had not any type of communication with him. Apparently, Luis decided to continue in the mountain in company of the Polish and other Iranian mountaineers who were also in the C3 of the G2. Day 20, firstly the Iranians and later the Polish and Luis, left towards the summit. The Iranians returned shortly near the summit and the Polish and Luis continued until 19,30 in afternoon, when the Polish mountaineer decided to return, insisting to Luis to accompany him because it was very behind schedule and the meteo was not good. Luis decided, in spite of everything, to continue towards the summit. The Polish returned to C3 and waited for the arrival of Luis until the following morning; that day the Iranians and the Polish, that were in the C3, retired to the C1 due to bad weather. When Luis was considered as missing, the night of the 21 of July the mountaineers in the C1 (6000 m) saw a light which answered their signals, located 7600 m. In that moment a rescue was organized from the C1 and BC, but it was prevented by bad weather. This bad weather (continuous snows) has continued during the following days, preventing to move in the mountain above the C1 due to high risk avalanches. Furthermore, we had preparate a package with oxygen, medicines, water and food so that a helicopter tried a launching on the position of Luis. This helicopter, although was warned from the beginning, not been able to fly by bad weather. Lamentably, at the today's date, due to the passed time, the bad metereological conditions and the state of the mountain, we give to our companion Luis, by deceased.
